That is a VERY cute example! Is it original?

However, your example has a problem, if you wish to offer it as
a model of something that frequently happens in evolution. How
did natural selection create the initial situation, in which
two alleles (purple and maroon) with no apparent common ancestor,
but with similar meanings, came to exist at the same locus?
