AOL told me the same thing two days ago -- which I found more than a
little discouraging. Compuserve was purchased by AOL a few years back,
thus it's not surprising that both organizations would stop serving
their members at the same time.
Nonetheless, I spent yesterday trying to find the best alternative. At
the moment, I am moderately pleased with my final result, but this is
only after one day's worth of use and I'm still getting used to it.
I'm now using the newsgroup functions intrinsic to Outlook Express
while subscribed to a free newsgroup server that allows both reading
and posting capabilities. The server's name (which is just an IP
address) is:
213.155.197.138
The Outlook Express reader functions are done significantly
differently than were AOL's, but they seem like something that I can
get used to with a little patience.
