While this is a little off-topic for the subject of the group, let me
finish up with the subject. Since my first response, I've spent the last
two days playing with various newsreaders and newsservers. I've gotten
to be very pleased with the standalone newsreader program that downloads
with Netscape 7.x and the free news feed referenced above.

The Netscape newsreader program does everything that I want it to do and
better than any of the other newsreader programs that I investigated.
Moreover, the program is quite intuitive. So intuitive in fact that it
took me half a day to figure it out :-).

All kidding aside, I'm quite pleased with the new arrangement. Clearly
AOL had lost interest in providing its newsgroup service, long before it
said that it was discontinuing its service. For the last several
months, only 30-60% of the newsgroup postings were being appearing on
AOL's servers, when compared to Google Groups.
