What I find truly mind-boggling is that it apparently took between 2BY
and 3BY after the prokaryotes appeared before the first eukaryotes came
along. What is the generation time of a typical bacterium? A couple of
hours? How many generations in 2-3BY? Why was the process of evolving
from one to the other so conservative?
