Your first two sentences make sense only if "we" refers to ALL life
on planet Earth. But in your final sentence, you seem to switch
the meaning. "Our responsibility" seems to apply to only one species
of life on Earth - H. sap. ISTM that if H.sap. has a special
responsibility in this regard, it derives from some other aspect
of the situation besides the simple biology.
But then I have never liked notions of collective responsibility in
the first place. Surely any correct notion of "responsibility" assigns
it to individuals, not species.
