Hello Larry,
Today is my fist time visit to this group; I hope I'm not violating any
group protocols with a reply.
It seems to me that the discoveries of science have had an effect on the
thinking of many philosophers. Bertrand Russell and the metaphysics of
Alfred North Whitehead come to mind as being affected by relativity and
quantum theories. In addition, there seem to be some philosophers who
are affected by the ideas that have emerged from cognitive science. I
understand that Quine was affected by Chomsky.
