You're doing fine. Keep going. It's OK to make mistakes
as long as you're willing to acknowledge and correct them.

Even if a textbook is correct, the process of reading and
understanding something from a textbook can involve making
and correcting mistakes.
There are advantages to doing things independently.
Concepts may be defined in new ways that make certain
new ideas more likely to emerge.
