Reviewing the jargon:
peripatric - allopatric where one of the two groups is very small
sympatric - local-niche isolation within same geographic area
allopatric - geographic isolation
...
Also there's:
parapatric - Continous range, but mostly local mating
Whoops. I hadn't noticed that perIpatric and perApatric were two
different words.
What I should have said is that we are talking about sympatric or
perApatric. Sorry about that.
