Reviewing the jargon:
peripatric - allopatric where one of the two groups is very small
sympatric - local-niche isolation within same geographic area
allopatric - geographic isolation
...
Also there's:
parapatric - Continous range, but mostly local mating

Whoops. I hadn't noticed that perIpatric and perApatric were two
different words.

Double whoops. Its pArApatric vs pErIpatric. As in 'parallel' vs
'perimeter'.

And I usually try to be such a paragon of correct spelling. I seem
to be becoming more of a perigon! ;-)
