Probably a good idea to read the book before launching a detailed
criticism of it?

Yes, that is true. However, often I go online and read several reviews
of a book to give me an idea of the book. I will get the book and read
it and then come back. I will use quotes by Wilson. Maybe then you will
respond. One caveat. I may not read the entire book but sections I'm
most interested in. I hope I won't lose the "bigger picture":)
