I think what you will find is that facial expression is almost solely
based on food in, or non food blocked out.

Smiling seems to be eating magnified.

Frowning seems to be spitting bad food out magnified.

Anything that moves seems to often evolve a head at the front.
If the head is where the organism takes in food and blocks out waste,
then facial
reflections show that and are built on that IMO
