Do Organisms that Metabolize Peroxides Exist

Are there any organisms that metabolize peroxides? How about organisms
that can use peroxides as an alternative to oxygen? How about organisms
that can tolerate or break down peroxides? Could organisms evolve or be
bred to metabolize peroxides?
A professor on the Discovery channel (sorry, I forgot who) said
that the presence of peroxides would make the presence of life much
less likely. Peroxides are far too corrosive and toxic to living
things, according to him. But that is on the present earth.
One reason this may be interesting is that there may be organisms on
Mars (or may have been) that use peroxides, the way many organisms on
earth use oxygen.
A second reason would be on the issue of how life started on earth.
Peroxides together with reducers (hydrogen, etc.) could be a good
source of energy. Maybe the first organisms on earth used peroxides.
