Re: Salthe signs DI's Dissent statement

``We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random
mutation and natural selection to account for the
complexity of life.''

Conventionally, evolution is thought to consist of
some other constructive mechanisms as well - such
as symbiosis, the Baldwin effect and mate choice.

Evolution didn't /just/ use mutation and natural
selection to get where it did. I would be sceptical
of any claim that by doing so, it could have produced
the same results.

``Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian
theory should be encouraged.''

As opposed to what? No examination? Careless examination?

It seems to me this document is not well phrased if it is
intended to indicate dissent from Darwinism. *Even* I
would be prepared to sign it - were it not for the
fact that doing so would be something of a political gaffe.

Still - maybe we should get Saint Richard to sign up ;-)

[moderator's note: Let us be careful here; I will not allow
discussion of the DI's silliness in this forum. This post
seems to me to skirt it pretty closely. - JAH]
