Does anyone know the up to date estimates on when the major races of
human-kind split apart? For example if you go back far enough we must
have all been African. When did the poulations split into negroids,
caucasoids, South East Asians/pacific islanders and North East Asians?
I've been meaning to bring this up myself. Are there races? Is "race" a
biological entity or is it a "social" one?
You just need to glance at Africans and Europeans to see that people whose
ancestors lived in Africa are different from those whose ancestors lived in
Europe. The difference is genetic - African parents who move to Britain have
children who look like Africans.
However it is also a cultural matter. For instance in America the idea of
"mixed marriages" is very sensitive. In Britian it isn't regarded as
anything unusual. The reason of course is that America had slavery whilst in
Britain such practises were kept safely out of sight in the colonies. Also
British blacks have chosen to move here of their own free will, whilst
Americans had no choice.
