As far as I know that isn't fully correct. And I don't critisize the
concept of a /non-African/ branch.
But a single fylogenitic /African/ branch doesn't exist. The Nilotes are
closer related to the non-African branch than are other African
branches, and less related to these other branches than they are to the
non-African branch.
This doesn't mean that the species can't be said to constitute of two
branches. But the two branches are the khoi-san branch [Hottentots and
Bushmen] and the remainder of humankind. Simply put, Africa is the
origin of Homo sapiens and as such, the kinds of humans living in Africa
are more diversified than they are in other parts of the planet.
And of course, this in no way implies the biological inferiority of any
branch [or race] of humankind. Although, of course, we are adapted to
different biotopes or habitats. There's a reason why people in
Equatorial Africa have a very dark skin and why we Scandinavians have
fair skin, hair and eyes ...
