Does anyone have references to mathematical models explaining speed of

basic info like how to define speed of evolution, how to measure it?
I am especially interested in papers confronting theories about
speed of evolution with empirical data.

Kjetil,
If you are interested in playing with a model, you can find a numerical
simulation at http://sites.google.com/site/genesubstitution/nunney
It is informed by (some of) the work of JBS Haldane, and I wrote it
after reading (some of) Walter Remine's writings on the subject. Google
will tell you everything you need about those two, if you are not
already familiar with them.
The program (and the work of Haldane and Remine) is by no means
exhaustive, and if you wish to investigate other influences you should
feel free to modify the source code; it is GPL'd.
Regards,
Andrew
