The power of symbiosis in evolution rivals the fight and flight
strategy and IMO is more important. Lynn Margulis is notable for
having made some important discoveries in this area.

Lichens for example , through symbiotic strategies have added other
dimensions to evolution by enlarging its forms and occupying distinct
environmental niches. Bacteria have intercell gene transfer =A0- " The
know-how of one system can be shuttled back and forth between separate
species." And IMO it is the social bonds, mostly between the mother
and child, that have led to the evolution of human achievement. We are
here, with what we have, mostly from symbiotic partnerships, not from
wars. Biomes are environments of inter relatied species. =A0Gaia is a
type of planetary symbiosis and is worthy of study.

Symbiosis should be given its rightful spot in evolutionary theory.

I have written before agreeing with the importance of symbiosis. I have
wondered about what could drive symbiosis, and I now think one of the
keys is Ricardo's theory of comparative advantage. =A0Even though you as =
a
human could produce enzymes to break down a particular compound, it
makes more sense to let some gut bacteria break that down, while you
supply a nutrient that they could produce but that you can produce more
efficiently.

We have two main processes IMO. Food in and Waste out.
These are the most primitive aspects of living things.

Food in, lead to symbiosis to get more food in.

Waste out, led to fight or flight to block out or get out waste

There are more posts to tie all of this together - coming soon.
