Actually, there are a few non-toxic rare-earth metals.
Gadolinium and some others are injected into you as
NMR/MRI contrast agents.

Kelly would greatly benefit from such a MRI scan to see the
condition of his brain.
The Russians, around the USSR collapse time, dumped/sold
gargantuan quantities of RE to the West for all kinds of
possible applications.
