I think that's the other problem. What you are buying as 5 pct tolerance
resistor is what was left after 1 pct, 0.1 pct and so on was selected,
so the distribution curve looks like a two-humped camel. Hydrochloric
acid bottles are not sorted this way so the ditribution is much closer
to normal.
