It's been a lot of years and my memory may be failing. But I was a grad
student at U. of Chicago and I remember the Monday lunch seminar when
Urey told us about Miller's experiment. I do believe the system was
totally closed and so there were no condensors in the usual use of the
word. However there was an attempt to maintain a moderate temperature
however you will have to consult the original literature to dig out the
details. I got the impression that Miller was the origintor of the whole
idea and that he was miffed that Urey was the on presenting the results.
But then again that's the way it works in academia.
