This question surprises me. Where in the world are you living? Is there
no Na2CO3 available to you? At many places, Na2CO3 is more common than
NaHCO3 as a household chemical. Usually the crystalline stuff,
Na2CO3.10H2O (crystalline soda), is available. This looses water
spontaneously, when not stored in a tightly closed container and with
some heating the water is easily removed. The large transparent
crystals first seem to melt, when they are heated and then they change
to a white powder, when the water of crystallization is removed.
This mechanism probably is easier than making Na2CO3 from NaHCO3 and if
you want to make soap from the Na2CO3, then it might be that the Na2CO3
does not need to be totally free of water.
