Certainly we should expect SiO2 to generally absorb materials with
protic hydrogen. Hydrogen bonds between the protons and the oxygen in
the SiO2. Quatitatively, however results could be diferent for
different compounds; water, with its rich supply of protic hydrgen, can
be absorbed more readily than alcohol.
