Re: metals

Answer 2: The metals which have variable valency show oxidising and
reducing properties. The metals which tend to be stable in their higher
oxidation states act as reducing agents.

Answer 3: The chlorides of metals conduct electricity because they have
unpaired electrons and the energy gap between the valence state and
excited state is very small so that the electron can easily excited to
the excited state and it is mobile. Hence the chlorides of metals
conduct electricity. But the chlorides of non-metals do not have
unpaired electrons and also the energy gap is very large so that the
electron cannot excite to the excited level.
