nBuOH has water, butyradehyde, butyric acid and sometimes a small
amount of other alcohols. Just distill the mother you got under
nitrogen or Ar (to avoid more oxidation), have a short Vigreaux column
in between, discard the front and the tail, the middle cut should be
fine.
(You cann add some non-dusty 4A activated sieve pellets into flask with
purified BuOH for long-term storage. The best though is to store it
under nitrogen, because of the facile oxidation of BuOH).
If you need super-super anhydrous grade, do the same thing but first
dissolve few grams of Na in the wet stuff, add some dibutyl phtalate
and reflux for few hours before the distillation. But at this point you
may rather buy Sure Seal anhydrous stuff from Aldrich instead.
