I think the particulates are also a problem, IIRC (not so sure) many
are just the wrong size to cause the worst problems: Big enough to be
significant, but small enough that the lungs have trouble expelling
them via the normal cleaning mechanisms.

Not really toxicity in the normal sense, but still something you don't
want inside you.
