Molarity is defined as moles of solute per litre of solution (not
solvent!). So you must see the resultant volume of the solution (which
is bound to be more than 3.5 L).
Concerning how calculating the moles of solute, it is simple: the
molarity of a solution of NaCl is the number of moles of the unit
formula NaCl per liter of solution; the molarity of ions in such
solution is then just double of this.
Molality is defined as moles of solute per kilogram of solvent (not
solution, this time). This is more precise, since molality is not
affected by temperature, but molarity is very practical for general
use, because it's easier to measure volumes of solution.
