"Frost-free refrigerator". Yes. Forced-draft cooling. Yes.
The oil would serve to moderate temperature swings between
auto-defrost cycle and normal freezing.
It wouldn't help with the thermal gradient between the cold air
path, and the "warmer" walls of the freezer box itself.
I can't imagine another use for the oil, except as an alternative
to water, which is problematic in freezers:
