Thanks for your comments. I know that pyrex shouldn't absorb much if
any microwave radiation. Maybe it is convection from the "food". What
I observe is that the upper edge and sides of a partially filled bowl
are quite hot to the touch but the food inside really isn't very hot.
I suppose the exposed portion of food in the bowl absorbs the microwave
energy and transfers it to the bowl by convection while the body of the
food hasn't had a chance to absorb much energy.
I remember our first microwave oven in the late 70's, when everybody
was talking about microwave ovens cooking food from the inside out.
Wife cooks a hunk of meat in the microwave oven and I cut it open to
show her that the inside was not cooked.
