Destroying aromatic amines to less harmful products?
Is there is simple cleaning solutions which can clean up aromatic amine
spills? In the university laboratory cum room, I found an old bottle of
1-naphthylamine during clean up and I am wondering someone might have
used this substance in this room. There are wooden working benches on
which this bottle was found.
Is there a way that I can wipe/ clean with an oxidizing agent to assure
that any surface contaminated with it that are no aromatic amines left
or these are converetd to something something less harmful. I was
thinking of hot alkaline KMnO4 but it would stain the wood.
Secondly is there is a kind of spot test to check contamination? I am
quite worried about it becuase according to Vogel, *single* exposure to
the two isomers (1 and 2) have initiated tumours.
