Re: Alternative to KMnO4 for potent color?

Hi All,
I am using KMnO4 in water to watch flow through some tiny ID plastic
tubing.

With a certain type, I can see the KMnO4 is apparaently oxiding the
plastic, is there another alternative that will probably be safe with
plastic? The problem with stuff like food coloring is that at high
[]'s, the water isn't really water. If you could suggest a
particularly potent organic water soluble dye, it would be useful.

Many Thanks.

Fluorescein is used by plumbers and hydrologists to trace water flow. Hardware stores and plumbing supply stores stock it.
