Well, your statement starts out with two errors -- one being that I "hate"
Uncle Al. Since I have never (as far as I know) met him, I do not hate him
personally. I do admit that I feel sorry for him sometimes. Nor have
I ever said or done anything to indicate that I believe that the world is
divided into only two groups with respect to their feelings about Uncle Al.
In fact, I have already discussed my beliefs in the matter. Every playground
bully will have a group of people who will join his gang for the joy of
the reflected glory. But not everyone who is unwilling to stand up to the
bully is necessarily one of the bully's toadies or sidekicks.

Your behavior towards Uncle Al for at least a decade has shown you to be
one of those people who fulfill the same function on sci.chem as the
playground bully's sidekicks do in the fourth grade. Why you think that
my description of your relationship to him means that I live in a
"black-and-white" world is beyond me, but then again, you are the one who
knows how to think objectively.

: I prefer to come down on the side of reason...

If you did, then you would conclude that it is unreasonable for a scientist
to act toward a proven liar the way you do. You have found plenty of time
to psychoanalyze me (speaking of unhealthy obsessions). Have you ever
responded to one of Uncle Al's lies by telling him that lying is something
that scientists are not supposed to do, and that his need to lie about his
credentials, about the experiments he is doing, about his participation in
other people's projects, and that he is going to stop posting to sci.chem,
along with his need to give people advice in areas where he clearly does
not know what he is talking about, are all evidence of a very serious
inferiority complex?

: and my blood pressure is normal as a result. You really need to
: get a life, and get over this unhealthy obsession.

I do not know why you think that correcting Uncle Al's many misstatements
when I see them -- I do not read every thread in sci.chem -- is an
"unhealthy obsession." An unhealthy obsession might be searching for
Uncle Al's posts and responding to each one of them, or posting anti-Al
screeds apropos of nothing. Or it might be posting lengthy defenses of
him, and personal attacks against people who point out his mistakes, in
threads where he himself has used the better part of valor and excused himself
from having had to admit that he made a mistake. I note that the inability
to admit to having made a mistake is a character trait that you seem to
share with him, something for which I hope you are rightly proud.
