Are you guys in the US using propylene glycol in ordinary antifreeze?
Here in Oz we still use ethylene glycol for car radiators. I can
understand the relatively non-toxic prop glycol being used for
winterizing RV plumbing systems, but the cost is significantly higher
and EG is still our car antifreeze.

Ethylene glycol is cheap and effective automotive antifreeze, though
very toxic if swallowed - and it tastes sweet. Enviro-whiners forced
propylene glycol that, although expensive and ineffective, is much
less toxic - and it is horribly bitter. Folks who know anything about
cars and coolant use ethylene glycol. Folks with an eco-conscience
use propylene glycol and are naturally selected against.
The obvious Official compromise is to add $10 of Bitrex to every
gallon of ethylene glycol antifreeze, mandated by jackbooted State
compassion. After a couple of days cooking in your car the quaternary
ammonium compound will be completely degraded. A compassionate
statement will have been made, our children will be Officially saved,
and you will be out an extra $10. Perfection.
Bitrex in antifreeze mandated by law only lacks some contonuing
sincere political contributions by Bitrex manufacturers. Don't you
feel that $20 of Bitrex/gallon would be even better? Plus a
$10/gallon user fee for recycling? PAY UP, SUCKER - GAIA IS
THREATENED.
