In that show, it was said that C02 went into solution in the oceans when
the temperature was low, and came out of solution when the temperature
was high.

Could the C02 capacity of the oceans be calculated with respect to
temperature?

Firstly, The Great Global Warming Swindle was a seriously flawed
documentary. Numerous scientists involved with it felt
misrepresented. And Durkin (the director) deliberately misrepresented
data to support his argument. For example - his plots of hour solar
activity and temperature ended about 1980. Why? Because if he
included data after that he would see the relationship diverge - very
obviously. That would suggest that there is some other factor other
than solar activity that is driving up temperature, but that would
have been inconvenient for him.

And on top of that, here's what the Norwegian scientist who did the
research had to say about this the data that was presented (up to
~1980):

"We have concerns regarding the use of a graph featured in the
documentary titled 'Temp & Solar Activity 400 Years'. Firstly, we have
reason to believe that parts of the graph were made up of fabricated
data that were presented as genuine. The inclusion of the artificial
data is both misleading and pointless. Secondly, although the narrator
commentary during the presentation of the graph is consistent with the
conclusions of the paper from which the figure originates, it
incorrectly rules out a contribution by anthropogenic greenhouse gases
to 20th century global warming."

There are many more issues - I suggest googling a bit to learn more
about the criticism. It is full of half-truth (the water vapour one I
find particularly irritating) and misrepresentation (including
presenting long superseded data as though it was current). Every
point he makes has been countered through the use of data and other
facts, which he chose to leave out of his film - when his point wasn't
a straw man in the first place.

Also, and I realise this is a bit of an Ad Hominem, one of his
previous "documentaries", "Storm in a D-Cup" was about how women
should go for breast implants, as it is good for their health. The
quality of his 'research' is rather poor.

Having said that, I'm no climate scientist, but the solubility of CO2
in water, at different temperatures can be calculated. Yes as
temperature increases, CO2 is likely to leave the oceans. As
temperature drops, more can be dissolved. I don't recall the
documentary well enough to remember what point he was trying to make
with this, but it is probably also a half-truth, if not a lie.

I'm not a climate scientist either but I am a chemist who believes the
whole CO2 thing is simplistic, like relating increases in the stock
market to sun spot activity. Michael Crichton's "State of Fear", while
fiction, gives good explanation for the political situation set up by
the global warming crisis.

And "Jurassic Park" gives good explanation for how to clone
dinosaurs. "Sphere" on time travel.

Come on, this IS a sci. newsgroup. Learn some damn science!
