No moderator here. You will have to put up with thespam and the nuts.
Suggestion to zepp.maxoid, the OP: use a good newsreader
that let's you do a lot of filtering easily. For example,
some people filter out particular posters by name.
Unfortunately, I don't think google is good for filtering.
Suggestion for all: In some newsgroups, users put a standard
abbreviation or TAG in their subject line to make EASIER to
filter, e.g., in sci.chem, that might be something like:
Subject: [chem] Molarity or molality?
Subject: [scichem] Uncle Al's diamonds
Subject: [sci.chem] Too much spam.
It should be something that is NOT likely to show up in spam
subject lines. That's why the brackets [chem] are
important, too. I like [CHEM]. If people start using it,
even without an official announcement of plea, I think that
word would spread and others would catch on once they
realize it's a good filtering tool.
I know there's a lot of cross-posting and phys or astro people
might not know to include [CHEM] when cross-posting to sci.chem
Sci.chem repiers could add [CHEM] and that would validate the
thread so others could go back and check for earlier posts w/o
the [CHEM].
