Without going into the reasons why I think your hypothesis is sheer
silliness, let me ask you one thing. If this was done twenty years
ago, and actually worked, why hasn't China commercialized the process,
and turned China into the world's number one exporter of petroleum
products? China could have used this to become the richest country in
the world without breaking a sweat, if it were true, and they'd have
to be daft not to try.
Why didn't they?
