Does any know how the following is possible or even better if there is
a product for it?
Transparent surface to visible light, when is in contact with
hydrocarbon gas to alter the color of the surface or even better alter
the opacity of the material.
Such materials exist, but I can't remember much about them. They are
like solvatochromic materials that change color, but instead the
change is from transparent to colored, or the reverse.
Try Googling on solvatochromism or solvatochromic.
