Is it possible to change crystal shapes with detergents?

Some solids crystallize as clumps which are
hard to handle.

Can some small quantity of additive be used
to change the crystal form to small
non-clumping crystals? I was thinking of
detergents or other surface active substance.
We want to filter solutions rapidly.
