Of course, the answer is, we need theories to guide the
neurophysiological research, and we need neurophysiological research
to provide data to support the theories, and/or be used to modify and
extend the theories. This is how science works - of course. Or, as
would seem to make more sense, given our current technologies, we can
build computer simulations and use these to develop our theories.
Especially since neurophysiology is barely past the single-unit
recording stage.
Or we can all just go back to what people believed 50 years ago. For
some, it's *still* 1950. Ever hear the story about imprinting in baby
ducks? Still works as ever.
