For some reason my response wasn't posted, so here's a repeat:

A pattern is a set of matching inputs, each of which is a set of
variables compared in parallel. A feature is a subset of
variables/derivatives that actually match within a pattern, a match is
generally incomplete. The "use" is the discovery of
invariant/predictive features within an input flow.
