Threats on science-related usenet remind me that the line between anger
as
a way of life and insanity doesn't exist - they coincide. The
condition is
known as paranoid schizoid character at the "least" neurotic level, and
is
considered basically incurable because angry people hate others
including
medical practitioners trying to cure them while depressive characters
are
only angry at themselves. Depressives are typically curable if caught
early
enough. The distinction was first recognized by Melanie Klein's school
of
psychoanalysis. Melanie was a contemporary of Freud in Austria who
migrated to the U.K. where she was the main rival of Anna Freud
(Freud's
sister).

This threat on usenet is not only a threat against Albert but against
victims in general. A majority of "peaceful" people are convinced
that because they
have never been attacked physically or threatened by strangers verbally
with
mayhem, their "luck" or "anonymity" or "good will" will see them
through the
rest of their lives and that others who are attacked have somehow stood
out
or made a mistake or resisted or otherwise put themselves in harm's
way.
I call this the Peace-At-Any-Price school, and it applies to both
psychology
and politics.
