Prohibition existed in the U.S. for twenty year for exactly the same
reason. You may read history books to see how much good Prohibition did.
The mean consequence of Prohibition was to promote the growth of
organized crime syndicates. The anti-drug laws do the same thing. The
people who oppose lifting the drug laws with the most fervor are the
king pins of the drug cartels.
