Nonsense. People invented things long before the existence of patents
and people continue to invent things in areas that are not patentable.

In many ways, I find a system where inventors keep things secret
preferable to a system where the government enforces an artificial
patent monopoly. That puts the burden of protecting the invention on
the inventor rather than on the consumer and the taxpayer.
