War has a law.... the Geneva Conventions.
I haven't read the treaties myself, but an American TV commentator
noted that "playing dead" is against the Convention's rules.
If so, and even if an investigation would show [and I don't take that
as self-evident] that the Marine had no possible reason to believe the
fallen enemy was harboring a hidden weapon or booby-trap; the Marine's
action falls into the same category as shooting a spy because he did
not wear a uniform.
