Military investment serves as insurance, reducing the chance of an
aggressor will take your entire economy away from you. It is also a
political tool for persuading other nations act in a way economically
beneficial for you even when you don't use it directly.
Furthermore, it provides plenty of jobs for people who work aboard it,
maintain it, and provide supplies for its operation. Just like an
ocean liner or private Lear jet.
