That is true, but if a defendant is unable to speak English sufficiently
to defend his rights, translators will be provided. Unfortunately, it
will be at my expense and yours.
When we get rid of the dual language programs from the public schools
this problem will go away by itself. Everyone will know enough English
to transact in the courts or with the burocracy in English.
We need a common language for public business for the same reason we
need a common currency. It is a matter of efficiency and ease. I propose
that the common language be English, for the United States.
