All of the heat conveyers depend on saline gradients to operate. In the
short or medium term global warming can lead to the melting of ice which
will introduce fresh water that will disrupt and even turn off the
conveyers, which will lead to extreme freezing in polar latitudes. This
will affect the northern hemispher the most. Did you ever read the story
-Hans Brinker and the Sliver Skates-. That story was set during the
"little ice age" when it was so cold in the Netherlands that the canals
of Amsterdam and Rotterdam froze over in the winter. It has happened
before and it can happen again.

That being said, one must consider -all- causes of warming. In addition
to greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is also an inherent warming caused
by the Sun itself. The heat output of the sun varies from time to time.
During a period of "hot sun" the temperature will rise regardless of
what humans do or do not.

You will notice the eco-phreaks do a number of strange things.

1. The blame all the heating on human agency

2. When some humans agree and want to cut the effusion of greenhouse gas
by using nuclear sources of heat energy the eco-weenies have a hissy fit.

3. The eco-weenies want the human race to freeze in the dark, so the
furry brown eyed mammals can have an easier time of it.

I agree with the eco-phreaks that we should keep the earth livable. But
I want the earth livable for people, not just the furry brown-eyed
mammals. That is why we should find alternatives to burning hydrocarbons.
