America's big advantage has traditionally be research and technology.

Think about how little cars have changed in 50 years. Yes, they have
computer controlled ignition, but they still work with piston
combustion engines.

commuter runs while you sit back in comfort and read or work on the

ones can be easily adapted to other fuels such as methanol, natural
gas, electricity, hydrogen.

To win, Detroit needs to start thinking about selling transportation
rather than cars. That way computer guided vehicles could act as
taxis, that arrive within moments after you phone in or set up on
schedule on the Internet.
