Height would be then one dimension of the problem, but there must be a
way to characterize a tsunami wave from a non tsunami wave. At some
point there must be a difference that can be measured... though it may
not be enough to warn in time. I guess direction and pressure at some
depth should be enough to complete the system. It can be trained for a
while with normal waves, the majority, so the moment the variables get
out of the learned system, it would be an indication of tsunami. Now, I
don't know how often small tsunamis occur, but the more frequent the
easier it wouldbe to teach the system to distinguish this small
tsunamis. Then it would just be a matter of extrapolating data to
characterize big tsunamis. Probably the problem is holistic, that's why
I have in mind a system with lots of points of measurement to have
enough data to train the system. Anything is better than nothing... and
all systems can be improved til the moment they do what we want them to
do. The interesting point is that it can be turned into a connectionist
system and let teh system learn. The cycle can be closed by taking
measurement of how far into the beach waves reach, as a mean to give
feedback to the system. Human interaction would be most desirable
though. It has to be cost effective; a learning algoryhm would work
excellent in that sense.

Well, yes, I suppose there must be lots of suicides... but if you teach
people what to do and why...

Somebody has been posting to this account and theramarm... that someone
is the one who wants to be recognized! (me)...
