It's not a reflection of 'lifestyle' (whatever that means), it's
supposed to measure total production. The extent to which
it actually does so, is another question. E. g. Raytheon builds
missiles, which go into holes in the earth, then dug up
sometime later, replaced with more missiles; this counts as
'production', and the people involved get counted as 'employed'.
What an honor to be a taxpaying American, furriners miss out
on this privilege!
