I was wrong, there were no WMDs

On Feb 12, 2003, about four weeks before the US launched its attack on
IRAQ, I posted the following message on sci.econ:
"In little over a year since Al Qaeda's base in Afghanistan was
eliminated, the Texas cowboy has managed to fritter away the last
remnants of goodwill for the US from the non-Muslim nations.
Reminds me of another president from Texas who got us into a
quagmire about forty years ago, and has a black marble memorial
in Washington to show for it.
"If the US invades Iraq, look for oil fields aflame, and poison
gas or germ attacks on US forces and probably Israeli cities.
None of this will make the slightest difference in Al Qaeda's
ability to launch attacks on the US.
"Serious planning for post-Saddam Iraq was started only about
three weeks ago. Of course that's long range planning for this
administration. In my view, one of two things will happen: The
US military will have to occupy Iraq for years to come and set up
a puppet regime of unknown effectiveness, or it will leave
earlier in frustration, whereupon Iraq will erupt in civil war as
the various ethnic groups take their revenge on each other. How
far that war spreads through the Middle East is anybody's guess.
"Meanwhile as Bush leads our forces into combat from his
Washington bunker, the terrorists have regrouped and are ready to
make their moves."
